Hession strikes gold for Monivea

MONIVEA Boxing Club's Adam Hession created history at the National Stadium in Dublin on Friday evening, becoming the first male boxer from the club to win an Irish senior title.
The 18-year-old flyweight defeated a multiple national champion in Terry Donoghue from St Michael's, Athy, to be crowned winner in the 52kg category at the National Senior Championships.
A Leaving Cert student at Clarin College in Athenry, Hession was part of the largest Galway representation to feature in the finals for many years and was one of three boxers to come away with gold medals.
