Concern over seven-month backlog in breast screening service

 
 
IT’S estimated that 40,000 women and men living in counties in the West haven’t received breast screening this year due to the impact of Covid-19 on BreastCheck.
Figures provided to a meeting of the West Regional Health Forum show that 42,282 people were screened across nine counties in the West in 2018 but only 8,122 have been screened this year.
Galway has the highest number of people screened in the region and in 2018 and 2019 there were 9,953 and 10,675, but just 2,167 patients have been screened in the city and county this year.
