Arts bonanza for Tuam

TUAM’S creative arts community has received a major boost with the announcement of Arts Council funding worth €450,000 over the next three years.
The Creative Places Ireland project will bring new opportunities for the local arts community to choose, design and take part in a wide range of arts experiences.
Launching the initiative at this week’s meeting of Tuam MDC, Sinéad O’Reilly, Head of Local Arts with The Arts Council, described it as a ‘blank canvas’ to inspire new artistic work in the town.
“We accept that investment in the arts in certain areas around the country has been inadequate,” she said.
“Tuam was chosen as the pilot town for many reasons. It has the highest youth population, the highest diverse population and the highest number of Deis schools in the towns shortlisted.
“We also recognise Tuam’s many creative assets, from Tom Murphy to Leo Moran and Davy Carton and Brendan Murray."
