STRAY horses are costing the tax payer almost €300,000 in County Galway. It has been revealed that 579 animals have been impounded by the local authority over the past five years.
So far this year, 34 animals have been seized and members of Galway County Council have called for a co-ordinated approach by four state agencies to take responsibility for and cover the costs associated with removing the animals that are causing a serious hazard on many of the county’s roads.
