Headford shares its lacemaking revival success

HEADFORD is eager to share its success at reviving the tradition of lacemaking and is collaborating with Galway City Museum to show others interested just how it can be done.
This Saturday (March 2) members of the Headford Lace Project will share the story of the town’s rich lacemaking history while also giving a taster of the craft.
Lace-makers of all levels are invited to attend a social event to make lace, exchange tips and techniques and enjoy chatting with others who enjoy the craft.
A demonstration of bobbin lacemaking takes place in the foyer of the City Museum throughout the day. People can also bring along pieces of lace they have at home, perhaps from previous generations, for examination and identification.
Anyone interested in learning more about lacemaking can attend an illustrated talk in the afternoon detailing the forgotten story of Headford Lace.
The free talk is open to all and takes place from 4-4.30pm but reserving a place is advisable by contacting the museum on 091-532460. The social event for lace-makers takes place from 10.30am to 3.30pm and booking is essential via headfordlace@gmail.com.
