A bug too hard to bear

BEING sick is bad enough but not knowing what is wrong can exacerbate the situation – physically and emotionally. A bite from a bug the size of a large poppy seed was all it took to turn the lives of a Tuam family into turmoil. Years of chronic pain, anxiety, frustration and worry followed.

What added significantly to the stress was how long it took for Lyme disease to be diagnosed. The family remains disappointed and let down that there are still some medical professionals who do not accept that the disease is behind their illness. The Tuam family’s hope is that their story might prevent it happening to someone else.
