Teenager injured after Ballinasloe shooting

A teenage boy was treated for non-life threatening injuries following a shooting incident in Ballinasloe town in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Gardaí are investigating the incident where a shot was fired in a green area of Curragh Park shortly before 2am, which left the juvenile male being treated for his injuries at University Hospital Galway.

An incident room has been set up at Ballinasloe Garda Station and a senior investigating officer appointed. Gardaí subsequently carried out a number of searches on properties in Ballinasloe and Athlone on Thursday, seizing a vehicle and electronic devices.

An adult male in his teens was arrested in Athlone during the searches and is currently being detained at a Garda Station in the North Western Region. A second male in his 20s was also arrested in Athlone because of an outstanding bench warrant.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone who may have been in the Curragh Park area between midnight and 3am on Thursday and may have dashcam footage, CCTV or other footage, to come forward.
