Racing at Galway cancelled following heavy rainfall

TUESDAY’S horse racing meeting at Galway has been cancelled after overnight rain left the course unfit for racing. The meeting, the third day of their October Bank Holiday festival, was subject to an 8am inspection this morning.

With 12 millimetres of rain falling overnight, and the rain continuing into the morning, Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board officials were left with no option but to cancel racing.

The October meeting had already been impacted by the weather. Saturday’s national hunt card was switched to Sunday due to Galway being under an orange wind warning.

As a result, Sunday’s national hunt card was moved to Monday, with the track due to to host a card of flat racing, Ballybrit’s last meeting of the year, later today. However, the inclement weather conditions mean their season finale will not go ahead.
