Athenry club secures grant for solar panel project
St MARY'S GAA Club in Athenry has been awarded €10,000 to fund a new solar panel project.
They are one of five grassroots sports organisations across Ireland selected for the Huawei Solar Sports Scheme. The initiative is helping clubs to cut energy costs and lower their carbon footprint.
“The awarding of this grant to St Mary’s GAA Athenry will allow us to install solar PV panels which will greatly benefit everyone involved in the club,” stated Club Officer David Casserly.
“It will significantly reduce energy costs, help us achieve Green Club status, and allow us to channel much-needed funds into other projects."
The Huawei Solar Sports Scheme is supporting projects that improve club facilities, widen participation, and strengthen youth and community programmes nationwide.
“Sports clubs are at the heart of communities across Ireland. We are proud to back the volunteers, players and families who keep them thriving,” commented Calvin Lan, CEO of Huawei Ireland.
“This grant will help St Mary’s GAA Club invest in sustainability and its future, creating a lasting benefit for members and the wider community.”
