Raising funds for first Children's Hospice in the West

STAFF from Bank of Ireland branches in Galway will host Coffee Mornings to raise vital funds for the Sunflower Children’s Hospice.

Customers and local communities are invited to join the events on Friday, October 16 to support the region’s first children’s hospice which is starting construction later this year.

The raised funds will help develop the Sunflower Children’s Hospice, which will provide essential care for children and young people with life-limiting illnesses, as well as supporting their families across eight counties in the West of Ireland.

The eight-bed facility will include family accommodation, hydrotherapy baths, play therapy and sensory rooms, direct garden access from every bedroom and, a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals.

“Sunflower Children’s Hospice is a vital service that will make a real difference for children and families across the West of Ireland, including Galway and Mayo,” said Michael Costello, Head of Bank of Ireland in Galway and Mayo.

CEO of Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation, Martina Jennings recalled that Bank of Ireland’s support to the Children’s Hospice began in December last year, when its branches in Galway and Mayo held collection days.

Ms Jennings has thanked all the 160 staff across the 21 Bank of Ireland branches in Galway and Mayo for their commitment and support.
