NEWLY appointed President of Galway Chamber, Gemma Costello

Future-proofing Galway key priority for new Chamber President

GALWAY Chamber has appointed Gemma Costello as its new President following the Annual General Meeting on Tuesday, September 29.

Succeeding the former President Cáit Noone, Gemma takes up the role at an important time when the organisation prepares to launch its new five year plan Strategy 2030 – Naisc Níos Láidre.

Developed following consultation with members, the strategy will focus on growing and engaging the Chamber’s membership, strengthening its voice for Galway business, building Galway’s international connections, developing meaningful partnerships and communicating the Chamber’s work and impact more effectively.

Ms Costello launched her presidency with the theme ‘Future Proofing Galway: Building Tomorrow, Together’, and said that investing in infrastructure, housing, connectivity and talent is needed to support a growing city and county.

“Galway is a fantastic place to live and do business, but we also have challenges that we cannot ignore,” she added.

She also paid tribute to outgoing President Cáit Noone for her leadership and contribution to the development of the new strategy.

As a manager with Bank of Ireland’s Salthill and Clifden branches, Ms Costello brings more than two decades of banking and leadership experience to the role of President.

Throughout her career, she has worked across both Retail and Business Banking, working closely with businesses, entrepreneurs, customers and communities across the region.

“I want Galway to be a place where our young people see opportunity, where they can build careers, start businesses, raise families and choose to build their future here,” said Ms Costello.

She said collaboration would be central to both her presidency and Strategy 2030, with Galway Chamber continuing to work alongside businesses, educational institutions, local authorities and Government agencies to support Galway’s future growth.
