Meeting to establish better communications in the EU held in Dublin

The Irish Presidency of the Council of the European Union is hosting the first meeting of Directors General for Communication since 2019 at the Royal Hospital Kilmainham.

This event will take place on September 17 and 18, and aims to bring together communications officials from across the EU.

The discussions will be centred around the proposed Digital Networks Act, which is an EU initiative designed to modernise communications infrastructure in Europe.

There will also be discussions around network resilience and spectrum policy, helping to advance negotiations on the proposed legislation.

There will also be an informal Telecoms Council in Limerick on 12 and 13 October, and discussions will help shape these future discussions.

Minister for Culture, Communications and Sport, Patrick O’Donovan, said: “Reliable digital connectivity is now central to how people live, work and do business. This meeting provides an important opportunity for Member States to work together on the future of Europe's communications networks and to ensure they remain secure, resilient and fit for the challenges ahead. It will also help build momentum ahead of the upcoming Informal and Formal Telecoms Councils.”
