Gardaí seize €70,000 worth of illegal goods in Claregalway
GARDAÍ in Galway have seized more than €60,000 worth of vape oil and jellies containing suspected illegal cannabinoids (THC, HHC and HHCP) in Claregalway.
Members of the Galway Divisional Drugs Unit, assisted by the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau (GNDOCB) and Revenue, searched a house in Claregalway last Monday August 17. They seized nine litres of oil (for use in cannabis vapes), with an estimated street value of €45,000.
In a follow-up search by the Drugs Unit, a quantity of suspected cannabis edibles (jellies), with a street value of €17,600 were also seized. A quantity of a suspected counterfeit weight loss product – with an estimated street value of €10,000, was also seized. No arrests have been made, at this time.
The suspected cannabis edibles and cannabis oil will be sent to Forensic Science Ireland for analysis and further enquiries will be carried out with the Health Products Regulatory Authority (HPRA).
Vapes and other products sold for public consumption, potentially infused with suspected illegal cannabinoids (THC, HHC and HHCP) can have significant negative effects, particularly where persons may not be fully aware of the strength or potential effects of the product being consumed.
Information from the HSE has already highlighted two case studies of regular cannabis smokers who experienced psychotic episodes as a possible result of vaping HHC.
