Members of Milltown Drama Society gather to launch their forthcoming production of ‘A Christmas Carol’.

Milltown group prepare for their next drama

MILLTOWN Drama Society is inviting members of the local community to audition and be a part of their upcoming show.

Following on from the success of their 2025 production ‘Da’, the drama society is now working on its next project, an adaptation of Charles Dickens’ ‘A Christmas Carol’.

Directed by Rory Hynes and produced by Eleanor Sheridan, the show promises to be a special production full of ghosts, hope and festive cheer.

Auditions for a range of roles for adults will take place on Friday, August 21 from 7pm to 9pm and Saturday, August 22 from 10am to 12 pm in the Milltown Community Centre.

Founded in 2014, the Milltown Drama Society was formed to re-establish the long culture and tradition of drama in Milltown.

Their first production was a centenary celebration of the birth of local playwright artist MJ Molloy, where they staged his play The Paddy Pedlar and the event was featured on RTE’s Nationwide.

Last year marked MDS’ tenth production with an acclaimed production of Hugh Leonard’s ‘Da’ directed by Rory Hynes which won the Connacht Cup 2025.“We are eager to cast the net wide and involve children, young people, carollers and those looking to try their hand on stage or in the wings,” said Rory Hynes.

“We hope to offer our own unique take on Dickens’ classic tale of hope and redemption, of unexpected ghosts, scenes of comedy and suspense as well as some festive carols along the way,” he added.
