Tuam meeting on county-wide sport and physical activities plan

PEOPLE in Tuam will be able to provide their ideas and opinions in developing a new strategy for sport and physical activities across County Galway later this month.

Galway County Council and Galway Sports Partnership have launched a public consultation on the Local Sports Plan, which aims to increase participation in sport, improve access to opportunities for people of all ages and abilities, and support healthier and more connected communities.

A series of public meetings will take place across the county from August 25 to August 27 as part of the public consultation process.

The first event will be held in Gullanes Hotel in Ballinasloe on Tuesday August 25 from 7pm to 9pm, followed by an event at Athenry Community Hall on Wednesday August 26 at the same time.

The final consultation event will take place at Harmony Hall in Tuam on Thursday August 27 at the same time.

Cathaoirleach of Galway County Council, Councillor Andrew Reddington, said that sport and physical activity plays a vital role in bringing communities together.

“This consultation gives residents, clubs, schools and community groups the opportunity to influence the future direction of sport and physical activity in our county,” he said.

Galway Sports Partnership Coordinator, Andrew McBride, said that the consultation events will allow people who are already active and those who face barriers to participation an opportunity to express their views.

“The feedback we receive will help us develop a plan that will help create an ‘Active, Vibrant, Healthy Galway for All’ and ensure future investment reflects the needs of communities throughout the county,” said Andrew McBride.
