Concerns over largescale housing estate in Tuam

CONCERNS have been raised regarding a largescale residential estate planned for Tuam.

Two submissions have been lodged by residents living close to the site earmarked for the major development, off the Galway Road in the town.

Last month, Beradine Ltd lodged a planning application with Galway Co Council for the development of 149 homes in the townland of Farranamartin.

One submission raises concerns about a possible loss of privacy at the back of their property and opines that this area of the town already has a number of housing developments compared to other parts of Tuam. It also highlights difficulties existing residents have accessing the Galway Road and claims that the proposed development would increase traffic issues on the stretch of road.

Another submission from a local resident queries the possible impact on an existing wall at their home by the proposal. They also raise concerns regarding trees, sewage pipes and manholes.

Beradine Ltd is seeking permission to build 149 homes to include 99 three-bedroom units, 26 two-bedroom, 16 one-bedroom, as well as eight four-bedroom dwellings. A single-storey creche for 36 childcare places is also planned for the development.

Planners are currently considering the application and are due to make a decision towards the end of the month.
