Tracy Piggott to undertake extraordinary swim across Galway Bay
TRACY Piggott is undertaking an extraordinary swim across Galway Bay to raise funds for the children’s charity Sensational Kids.
The national charity provides life-changing therapy services for children with additional needs across Ireland.
Taking place during Galway Race Week, Tracy will raise awareness and funds for the charity by attempting a solo 14-kilometre underwater swim from Finavarra Point in Clare to Blackrock in Salthill on Tuesday July 28.
Spending up to eight hours beneath the surface of the Atlantic, she will rely solely on breath control, resilience and determination in one of Ireland's most demanding endurance challenges.
"I am undertaking this swim because I truly believe every child deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential," explained Tracy, who last completed the swim back in 1998.
"Sensational Kids is changing lives every day, and I wanted to take on a challenge that reflects the determination shown by the children and families they support. Every donation, no matter how small, will make a genuine difference."
The campaign aims to raise €500,000 to help fund therapy services, reduce costs for families and support the reintroduction of hippotherapy in County Kildare.
Since 2007, Sensational Kids has supported more than 11,000 children through its network of Child Development Centres.

As Tracy approaches the finish of her incredible challenge, she is inviting swimmers of all ages and abilities to join her for the final 100 metres, creating a powerful community welcome as she completes her crossing.
