Road work materials will be tested across Galway
AN independent company will carry out quality testing of materials used in road improvements in County Galway.
Senior Roads Engineer for Galway County Council Conrad Harley informed the monthly meeting of Athenry/Oranmore MD that an independent company has been procured for the work.
They will be carrying out independent quality tests on all materials “from the bitumen to stones" used in this year’s Road Improvement Programme.
“Test samples will be taken from all contractors and all the works across all municipal districts over the summer,” said Mr Harley.
The issue was raised by Athenry Cllr Martin McNamara, who believes that the quality of materials can be a hindrance in carrying out road repairs, and potholes in particular.
“Quality assurance is an important element in every good process to know where we stand,” said Cllr McNamara.
