Yellow weather warning as temperatures soar
A YELLOW weather warning for high temperatures over the coming days has been issued for Galway and across the country.
Met Éireann has indicated that exceptionally warm weather with day temperatures as high as 30 degrees is expected from this afternoon (Tuesday) to Friday morning (9am).
Along with high daytime temperatures, warm and humid nights with temperatures above 15 degrees are forecast. There will also be the possibility of thunderstorms on Thursday, which could produce intense rainfall over a short period.
This may lead to sudden surface water flooding, poor visibility and hazardous road conditions, even in areas that do not normally flood.
Galway County Council has advised the public to stay in the shade, avoid going out or partaking in strenuous activities during the hottest part of the day, drink plenty of fluids and apply sunscreen.
The Irish Coast Guard, Water Safety Ireland, Waterways Ireland and RNLI are urging the public to stay safe while planning ayn activity in or on the water.
Uisce Éireann has also warned of water supply challenges stating that water supplies continue to face challenges from rising demand and increasingly unpredictable weather patterns.
They have reminded the public to take water-saving action and use only what you need to avoid water restrictions.
