Campaign highlights fire risks with caravans

A NEW fire safety awareness campaign aims to help improve safety for people living in caravans and mobile homes across Galway.

The campaign led by Galway County Council’s Traveller Accommodation Unit and supported through Dormant Accounts Fund, centres on a fire safety video that focuses on prevention, awareness and how to respond in an emergency.

The video was produced in partnership with Galway Fire Services, Traveller representative groups, Colas and the local authority’s Traveller Accommodation Unit.

It outlines the fire risks linked with caravans and mobile homes and offers practical guidance on how residents can stay safe and act quickly if a fire breaks out.

Chief Executive of Galway County Council, Liam Conneally said that increasing fire safety awareness among residents of halting sites as been identified as a priority for Galway County Council.

“This initiative is about providing practical information that can help keep people safe and reduce the risk of fire-related incidents,” he added.

“Caravans and mobile homes present unique challenges in the event of a fire, particularly because fires can spread very quickly and escape routes may be limited,” noted Uinsinn Finn, Director of Services with responsibility for Fire and Emergency Services.

“This video provides practical, easy-to-follow advice that can help people prevent fires and respond safely if one occurs,” continued Mr Finn.
