Claregalway secondary school trying out new LC subject

STUDENTS from Coláiste Bhaile Chláir were involved in an initiative at University of Galway to support the first set of Leaving Cert students studying the Drama, Film and Theatre Studies subject.

Over 70 fifth year students and teachers from Coláiste Bhaile Chláir in Claregalway and four other schools in the county attended University of Galway for the Exploration Day event. The schools are part of a group of schools nationwide that are delivering the newly introduced Leaving Cert subject of Drama, Film and Theatre Studies since last September.

Exploration Day was co-designed by secondary school students and academic staff members of the University’s College of Arts, Social Sciences and Celtic Studies department.

The event covered elements of the subject through workshops, analysis sessions, technical training, and performances and screenings. Fran Keaveney, of Creative Ireland’s Creative Careers initiative, also gave a guest talk to students.
