Awards sing praises of St Jarlath’s students
TUAM’S St. Jarlath’s College Operatic Society are celebrating success at both national and county level with wins at the Association of Irish Musical Societies (AIMS) School Mentoring Excellence Awards and the Galway University Musical Society (GUMS) School Musical Awards for their production of All Shook Up.
The school was recognised at the newly established AIMS School Mentoring Excellence Awards, where sixth-year student Jack Blake Cleary captured the Best Actor Award, marking him as one of the most talented performers in school musical theatre nationwide.
Success continued closer to home at the Galway University Musical Society (GUMS) School Musical Awards, where the college secured four awards including Best Ensemble Vocals and the highly coveted Best Overall Production Award.
Jack Blake Cleary once again earned the Best Male Actor Award for his charismatic and energetic portrayal of Chad while fellow sixth-year student Cian Corbett was honoured with Best Supporting Male for his role as Jim.
For both students, these achievements represent a fitting finale to their school musical journeys. Having each participated in five consecutive school operas, their dedication and passion have played a significant role in strengthening the musical tradition within St. Jarlath’s College and they will continue to tread the boards long after they leave the college.
Long standing Director and past pupil of the college Ronan Lardner expressed his pride in the achievements of Jack and Cian, and the entire cast and production crew. He noted that just as he has, “the cast and crew will have a lifetime of memories from their participation in musical theatre and long may the tradition continue!”
