Diversity is celebrated at Africa Day in Tuam
Music, dance, costumes and sunshine
A vibrant and fun-filled event marked the celebration of Africa Day 2026 at the Palace Grounds in Tuam.
The event on Saturday was attended by dozens of community members dressed in traditional attire waving the flags of various African countries immersed in their cultural music and dance.
Celebrated to mark the founding of the African Union in 1963, the event is a celebration of the rich diversity, culture and contributions of African communities on the continent and in the diaspora.
“Africa Day also says a lot about Galway and its people - a community that continues to show openness, warmth, and a genuine commitment to inclusion,” said Islammiyah Saudique-Kadejo, Chair of the Galway County Africa Day Planning Committee.
“The event highlighted how diversity is not just welcomed but actively celebrated, fostering connection, understanding and a shared sense of belonging,” she added.
