Ribbon to be cut on Tuam Sensory Garden
Initiative is result of huge community effort
TUAM’S highly anticipated Sensory Garden will be officially opened on Friday morning (April 17) at a ceremony in the Palace Grounds.
The development of the garden has been driven by Tuam Women’s Shed in conjunction with Galway County Council and several other individuals and groups in the area.
The Children’s Stimulation & Sensory Garden is the result of the combined efforts of all involved which have delivered a unique and accessible outdoor space designed to support sensory stimulation, play, learning, and well-being for children of all abilities.
The garden is being named after a former custodian of the park, the late Michael McGrath.
Work began on the amenity, located close to the swimming pool and leisure centre building, over a year ago with many volunteers helping to progress its completion in recent months.
The idea was first thought of a few years ago by some members of Tuam Women’s Shed who were walking around the park and noted that it was lacking something for those with sensory needs.
The official opening of the Tuam Sensory Garden takes place at 11am and there is an open invitation for everyone to attend.
