Ban on public drinking in Tuam
New laws should be in place for summer
NEW BYLAWS forbidding the consumption of alcohol in public places in Tuam are set to be introduced in the summer.
The ban is being introduced after ongoing complaints regarding drunken and anti-social behaviour in amenity areas of the town, including Rory O'Connor Park near the river.
The new bylaws are on track to come into effect in early and July and will allow the Gardaí to confiscate alcohol from those drinking it in a public place. Individuals can also be hit with a €75 fine should they refuse requests to stop drinking or leave the area peacefully.
