Special 100th birthday celebrations at Greenpark Nursing Home

Greenpark Nursing Home were delighted to celebrate the 100th birthday of Mary Devaney, Ballyedmond, Clonberne recently surrounded by her family and friends.

Mary was born in Castlerea, Co. Roscommon on January 31, 1926. She married her late husband Mickie Devaney in 1956 and moved to Ballyedmond. Mickie was an accomplished musician who was known by many in the country music scene.

Mary worked in many post offices around the country, but 26 of those years were happily spent in O’Donoghue’s Post Office in Abbeyknockmoy. The couple raised five children in Ballyedmond, and in 2023 Mary made the move to Greenpark Nursing Home in Tuam, where she became part of the Greenpark Nursing Home family.

Mary celebrated her 100th birthday with her family and many friends from Greenpark and beyond. The nursing home was decorated beautifully, and balloons were placed both inside and out to welcome everyone for the occasion.The afternoon commenced with Mass which was celebrated by Mary’s family friend Fr. Joe Feeney. This was followed by lots of music, food and drinks for family and friends. The musical entertainment was provided by Mary’s nephews Sean and Tommy Moran, with the help of keyboard player Terry McGowan. The music had everyone dancing and enjoying the night to some of Mary’s favourite songs.

Mary was delighted to receive her 100th birthday letter from President Catherine Connolly, which was presented to her during the festivities.
