Galway in need of points from trip to Ballyshannon
SUNDAY'S National Football League Division 1 clash with Donegal at Fr. Tierney Park, Ballyshannon has assumed even greater importance for Galway in the wake of last weekend's late collapse against Roscommon (throw-in: 1.15pm).
A rollercoaster campaign to date has plunged the Tribesmen into a relegation battle with just three points gathered from four fixtures after defeats to Connacht neighbours Mayo and the Rossies either side of a win in Armagh and draw in Kerry.
Saturday evening's loss came after being in possession of a 13-point lead with less than half an hour left on the clock. Yet, the concession of goals to Enda Smith and Daire Cregg were at the core of a famous comeback from Mark Dowd's side as they got home by 2-16 to 0-21 in a thrilling finale. Liam Ó Conghaile and Rob Finnerty contributed ten of Galway's points between them.
Right now, it looks a case of Monaghan plus one other for the drop to Division 2 with Dublin, Armagh and Galway very much in the picture. Travelling to face in-form Donegal is hardly the tonic for a team in need of points, but it's a fixture that the men in maroon have had the better of in recent times.
