Paralympian supported by young Galway girl for world record attempt
Katie gives a helping hand
BALLYGLUNIN girl Katie Walsh was on hand to support a Monaghan man as he secured his sixth Guinness World Record when pulling a ferry in Rossaveel on Saturday.
Shane McLoughlin, like seven-year-old Katie, is an amputee. On Saturday morning, the Monaghan paralympian crossed the five-metre line at Rossaveel harbour while pulling the largest passenger-only ferry vessel registered in Irish waters, with Katie’s support.
Shane McLaughlin has won world records for pulling five lorries and now one vessel. The 120tonne Aran Island Ferries vessel he pulled at the weekend is named ‘Saorise na Farraige’. It is 40metres wide and nine metres in length.
