Short film tells the story of Tuam’s iconic chair

A LARGE crowd attended the launch and screening of a short film which chronicles the history of the Tuam Chair.

Titled ‘From Humble Root to Irish Icon’ the film was a collaboration project of the Old Tuam Society and Friends of Tuam Heritage. It tells the story of the three-legged chair and its revival by Al O’Dea and Tom Dowd of Corrib Crafts from the 1960s to the present day.

The film also features John and Gabriel Blake, who continue to handcraft their renowned chairs at their Corrib Crafts workshop in the Old School House (Mall School) in Tuam.
