No funds to slow speedsters down
PEOPLE in Menlough have been left disappointed with the lack of funding available for traffic calming measures in the village, on a road where ten people have lost their lives in the past few decades.
Growing concerns sparked a public meeting in Menlough Hall on Thursday night regarding the ongoing problem of speeding vehicles along the R339, a road that runs in a straight stretch for approximately 3km with a 50kmh speed limit.
However, a speed survey by Galway County Council discovered that the fastest recorded speed outside Menlough NS was 135kmh, while at the church in the village it was 127kmh.
