Joyce to decide future ‘in due course’
DESSIE Farrell told GAA+ in the aftermath of Dublin’s quarter-final defeat to Tyrone on Saturday evening that his six-season stint as their manager was over.
Padraic Joyce has another year to run on his own six seasons at the helm, a term that was extended by two years towards the end of 2024.
Less than 24 hours following Farrell’s departure, Joyce felt the minutes after Sunday’s 2-16 to 2-15 loss to Meath was not the right moment for him to be making any announcements as to his future as Galway manager.
“We’ve just gone out of the championship so I’m not going to make any rash decisions. We’ll sit and chat,” said the Killererin man in a press conference room underneath the Cusack Stand.
“There’s a lot of lads in there with decisions to make about next year as well, as we have as a management, so we will do that in due course.
“The County Board have always been very supportive of me and the players so we will sit down and get things properly organised. Whatever will be will be. There will be no statements or no rushes coming out the next day or two anyway.”
The Galway manager admitted that his team found it hard to get a sustained level of performance going throughout the tie.
Slow starts to games have been an issue for Galway in this championship and both teams left opportunities behind them in the early stages.
“Awfully disappointed to lose the game. We just didn’t get to the levels of the game, and we didn’t really perform the way we should be performing,” said Joyce.
