New chains for new Tuam Cathaoirleach

INDEPENDENT Cllr Karey McHugh Farag has been elected as the new Cathaoirleach of the Tuam Municipal District.

The Tuam woman, who was first elected to Galway County Council in 2014, takes on the role for the first time. She replaces outgoing chair Cllr Andrew Reddington, who stepped into the position following the election of Deputy Pete Roche to the Dáil last December.

Cllr Mc Hugh Farag will have the honour of being the first Tuam Cathaoirleach to wear the newly commissioned chains of office, which are set to be ready in the coming weeks.
