Tuam Celtic push Villa aside

DESPITE having to contend with gale-force winds and torrential rain, both teams served up a proper end-to-end goalfest, but ultimately it was Tuam Celtic who advanced to the first round of the Michael Byrne Cup with a comprehensive victory over Moyne Villa on Friday evening.
Both clubs are side-by-side, eighth and ninth, in the Western Hygiene Division 1 league table. Tuam Celtic currently lie four points clear of their Headford rivals and their superiority and perhaps squad depth was telling throughout, with a host of changes being made by both camps ahead of this game.
To both sides’ credit, in spite of the dreadful conditions, players elected to keep the ball on the deck at every opportunity, with precise and intricate passing a telling characteristic throughout.
