Galway stars for community hurling event in Athenry

TWO Galway GAA stars will take part in a community hurling event in Kenny Park in Athenry this Saturday, July 9, when young hurlers from the county will get the chance to show off their skills.
Cathal Mannion from Ahascragh and Jason Flynn from Woodford will be putting participants to the test as part of the Centra Live Well initiative, which promotes healthy living and encourages people to get active.
The event will give clubs an opportunity to secure a place at a final day in Croke Park later this year, where they will receive a hurling skills session from some of the best hurlers in the country.
In addition to this, they will receive an all-access pass to the behind-the-scenes areas of Croke Park, a stadium tour, and a museum tour to explore the history of Ireland’s national sports.
Centra, which sponsors the All-Ireland Hurling Championship, will be running 12 of the regional events throughout the country this summer. The events will see thousands of children taking part in hurling sessions with inter-county players.
There will be lots of other family entertainment on the day, including face painting and a hurling simulator.
The event commences at 10am on Saturday, July 9 in Kenny Park in Athenry. The hurling skills session is open to boys and girls of all standards from the ages of five to 12.
