Shortage of college rooms has moved out to rural towns

THE shortage of college accommodation for students isn't only hitting areas such as Galway, Dublin, Cork or Limerick - lack of rooms and houses to rent has affected third level courses in more outlying areas.

The influx of approximately 500 students more than three years ago, attending courses, both part-time and full-time, at Mountbellew’s Franciscan Agricultural College has resulted in pressure on accommodation in the area.
The college authorities have made an appeal in Church newsletters in the Mountbellew-Moylough area asking for any householder with an empty house, spare room or rooms, to inform them but after that it’s up to the home owner to negotiate with the students regarding the cost.
