A poll-topper succeeding with personal touch politics

A JOB well done is how poll-topper Independent Sean Canney sums up his performance and that of his formidable team of 259 canvassers.
Without having to jump through party convention hoops, the man from Claretuam began his election campaign almost a year ago and while he’s still in the giddy honeymoon stage of getting used to referring to himself as Deputy Canney, he is already focused on the task of being TD.
Working in the background was his biggest fan – 90-year-old Mammy Canney. Having cast her vote at Greenpark Nursing Home early last week, Sheila ensured she played her part in the canvass.
“You topped the poll in a TD election, Sean, you must be doing something right,” are the words of praise she gave her son.
