GARDAI are set to roll out a major campaign across the county targeting speeding motorists and those who use their phone while behind the wheel.
Galway’s Garda Chief Tom Curley told his county team of Superintendents at a meeting in Tuam recently to increase their detection numbers significantly for these offences. The Chief Supt says that speeding around the county is “chronic” and people driving while speaking and texting on their phones is getting worse.
More gardai will be dispatched on traffic duty in non-marked cars while speeding and mobile phone offenders will also be watched out for by officers patrolling towns’ streets.
