Have a heart and support fundraiser for defibrillator

TUAM man Robbie Fahy has launched a fundraising project for the purchase of a defibrillator, which would be available to everybody in the town.

As The Tuam Herald reported in August 2015, Robbie’s heart stopped beating for 90 seconds after he suddenly fell to the floor in his apartment at St Jarlath’s Court but the quick action of a friend and staff at the Clúid Housing development saved his life.
In expressing thanks to Clúid manager Deirdre O’Donnell and the staff members who used the on-site defibrillator to restart his heart, Robbie said he believed that “placing defibrillators in public areas in town centres could be a simple way of helping to save lives.”
Now, supported by a group of friends, he has set out to raise €1,500 and already he's got a great response: “We're asking people around the town to make a €5 contribution,” says Robbie.
“As soon as we reach our target we'll arrange for the defibrillator to be installed in a selected local place and made available to all.”
* Contributions can be given to Robbie Fahy or to the staff of The Man of Aran, High Street. In return, you'll get a ticket to a special night of entertainment, this Friday June 16 at The Man of Aran, with music by The Fahys.
