Sawnoff shotgun seized in barnaderg raid

FOLLOWING a covert Garda operation over the weekend in the Barnaderg-Killererin area on Friday and Saturday (November 15 and 16), Gardai from Tuam, with assistance from the Regional Support Unit, seized a sawn-off double barrel shotgun and a quantity of ammunition and arrested a local man.
The man was taken to Tuam Garda Station for questioning.
He was detained under Section 30 of the Offences of the State Act on suspicion of being in possession of a firearm. He was later released and a file on the matter is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions. Gardai believe that the firearm was one that was stolen in a burglary in Limerick a number of years ago.
The firearm is being sent to Garda headquarters for a ballistic report and further examination.
