CCTV for M'bellew and Athenry bring banks

CCTV CAMERAS are to be introduced in Mountbellew and Athenry in a bid to combat littering and illegal dumping.

Galway County Council are rolling out CCTV cameras at nine bring bank sites in the county, including the outskirts of Mountbellew and the public car park in Athenry.

A public consultation process regarding CCTV installation at these locations is open on the county council’s website.

Members of the public can make submissions or observations before the deadline of 4.30pm this Friday, September 4.

Last year the recycling and clothing banks in the Palace Grounds car park in Tuam was one of four locations chosen as part of the local authority’s pilot project for CCTV.

A plenary meeting of the county council in June heard that €40,000 in funding had been secured for the project.

However, no timeline was available at the meeting for when the CCTV cameras would be put in place in Tuam.
