Galway city rent prices rise by 13 per cent

RENT prices in Galway City have risen by 13 per cent over the past year.

According to the latest Daft.ie Rental Report, the average monthly rent for a two-bed apartment in the city is now €2,336, accounting for a 13.3 per cent rise over the past 12 months.

A two-bed apartment in Co Galway costs an average of €1,559 in rent per month.

Galway saw the largest percentage increase in rent for a two-bed apartment across the five major cities recorded in the report (Dublin, Galway, Cork, Limerick and Waterford).

The increase in Galway was twice that of Dublin (6.5 per cent), which still accounts for the highest level of rent (€2,634) amongst the country’s largest cities. The average market rent for a two-bedroom apartment nationwide is now €2,204 per month.

The report also showed rent in Galway City varied between €3808 for a five-bed house and €1157 for a studio apartment.

Meanwhile, the average rent for a double room in an apartment (with no ensuite bathroom) in Galway City now stands at €789, while in Co Galway it is €671. Both are below the average which currently stands at €812.

Rent prices for a bed in the city range from €690 for a single bed in an apartment that has no ensuite bathroom to €923 for a double bed in an apartment with an ensuite bathroom.

The average rent for a bed in Co Galway varied between €570 for a single bed in a house with no ensuite to €712 for a double bed and ensuite bathroom in a house.
