Storytelling event at Galway restaurant

A NIGHT of storytelling and improvisation takes place at a Galway city restaurant on Monday, August 17.

Hosted by Moth and Butterfly, the event will be held at Rogue restaurant on Dominic Street from 7pm on Monday and will feature three different styles of storytelling.

The theme for this year’s event is ‘Here Comes the Sun’ with special guest teller Sinéad O’Brien from Dublin. The tellers can choose from ‘Moth’ style stories which are short, true, thematic and feature the teller; 'Improvised' stories that are created on the spot; and 'Free-fall' stories which are all other stories that fit the theme.

Moth style stories generally run for about eight or nine minutes and are more interesting than jokes or a yarn. The host crew always prefer a story of something that had an impact on the teller, a story that changed them in some way.

The night is for oral storytelling and does not allow any reading or notes. The event is for both storytellers and listeners.

Audience tellers at the event will be selected by a names in a hat system, while all stories will be told to the theme of Here Comes the Sun.

The stories can be true or fictional with a maximum length of 10 minutes or shorter.

Moth and Butterfly’s events have always attracted audience members from around the globe, both in person and online, and feedback fromt events is always welcomed.
