Tuam playground in need of some TLC
COUNCILLIOR Karey McHugh Farag is calling for investment in the playground facilities in the Palace Grounds in Tuam.
The popular park has gone through a series of well received upgrades over the past two years, such as the sensory garden, a dedicated dog park, a 3v3 basketball court and new sports equipment available to borrow free of charge.
However, Cllr Farag believes that the playground, one of the park’s most well-used amenities, needs some vital maintenance.
“We are lucky to have seen such great developments to the facilities in the Palace Grounds, but the playground has begun showing its age,” she warned during a meeting of the Tuam Municipal District.
“The padding on the floor is beginning to come up, with overgrowth also becoming visible. It has been 20 years since any work has gone on in the playground, would there be any money in the council’s budget to make some improvements?”
Director of Services for Tuam Michael Owens stated he will follow up on this request and see what funds or schemes could be made available to pay for the maintenance and upgrades of the popular playground.
