Local groups in Galway get funding boosts
MORE than 40 community groups in North and East Galway have received over €84,000 under the Local Enhancement Programme (LEP) 2026.
The funding forms part of an allocation of €213,600 for projects across County Galway. Some of the major beneficiaries of the funding in North and East Galway are The Mall Theatre in Tuam (€3,000), Make a Difference Youth Club Tuam (€3,000), Tuam Women's Shed (€1,000), Garrafrauns Community Council (€5,000), Moylough Sportsfield Committee (€3,500), Killererin Community Council (€3,000), and Ballymacward Hall Management Committee (€5,000).
Junior Minister for Transport, Séan Canney congratulated the groups who have received funding and said that the funding will make a real difference in organisations across the county.
“Whether it is improving community facilities, purchasing essential equipment or helping local groups continue the valuable work they do every day, these grants provide practical support where it is needed most,” he said.
The Local Enhancement Programme is administered by Local Community Development Committees (LCDCs), with support from local authorities, and forms part of the Government's ongoing commitment to supporting community and voluntary organisations, particularly those serving disadvantaged communities in both rural and urban areas.
“These grants may be modest in size, but they make a real difference to the day-to-day operation of local groups,” said Albert Dolan, Fianna Fáil TD for Galway East.
Deputy Dolan welcomed the support for community facilities, Men’s and Women’s Sheds, youth services and sporting organisations and said that communities and volunteers have always been the strength of North and East Galway.
“These investments will help ensure these organisations can continue to grow and provide opportunities for people of all ages,” said Deputy Dolan.
