Councillors ask for extra staff in Athenry
MEMBERS of Athenry-Oranmore MD are hoping to get more staff members appointed in the area.
At a recent meeting Cllr Cillian Keane said the council had previously agreed to appoint 240 new staff over a three-year period. He said he was led to believe that the Athenry MD would get a staff increase. While he praised the work being done by the existing staff, more were needed to get more work done.
“Compared to other MDs, we don’t have separate technicians or engineers,” noted Cllr Keane.
Cllr Sean Broderick had also asked about the possibility of extra staff in the MD to help get other jobs done.
Senior Roads Engineer for Galway County Council Conrad Harley told the members that he was not aware of any proposals to extend the number of staff.
He said that hiring new staff for summer would mean more people and less work during other times of the year.
“The addition of extra staff means we have extra wages to pay,” he continued.
