All-Star honours for Tuam agri business

GH Agri Animal Healthcare in Tuam has received a prestigious Agri Business of the Year award for 2026 and has developed a footprint in Africa and the Middle East in recent years.

The company, based in the MG Business Park on the outskirts of Tuam, has been honoured by the All-Ireland Business Foundation (AIBF) through their Business All-Stars national recognition programme. The team at GH Agri Animal Healthcare will be presented with their award at a ceremony in Croke Park today Wednesday, June 10.

GH Agri is an agricultural and veterinary company that was set up in 1989 by Kevin McHugh and his wife Della from Tuam. Their animal healthcare products provide natural veterinary and nutritional solutions to support livestock health, welfare, and farm productivity.

The company employs 18 people, working with farmers across the country and is expanding operations further afield.

“Our products are manufactured in Pretoria in South Africa by Eco-Vet for sale in South Africa and five other African nations,” said Kevin McHugh, CEO of GH Agri Animal Healthcare.

“We work with Wisdom Vet in the UAE then. We were the first company from the western world to get products registered with the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCA) in the UAE, that was in 2023.

“Danny Cunningham, who is our Business Development Manager, was the Senior Development Officer with Enterprise Ireland in the Middle East until he retired in March of 2024. He came working with us in November of that year.

“With the help of Danny, he introduced us to a lot of farms in the Middle East. So many of the managers of the bigger farms over there are Irish expats. It says a lot about Irish farming.”

The judging panel with the AIBF rewarded GH Agri for its contribution to the agricultural sector, innovation when it comes to animal health and commitment to sustainability and quality.

Kevin McHugh reserved praise for the Local Enterprise Office in Galway for the assistance they have given.

“We’re proud to receive this recognition from the AIBF. Since establishing the business, our focus has been on developing practical products that genuinely support farmers and improve livestock health. This accreditation reflects the work of our team and the trust built with farming communities across Ireland,” said Kevin McHugh, who has three of his children - Steven, Karey and Dawn - working in the company.

“The Local Enterprise Office in Galway do an awful lot of work behind the scenes. They gave us a lot of financial help and gave us mentors when it came to exporting and product development. Caroline McDonagh and Eoin Connaire in their Galway office have given us great help.

“We have three new products brought out in the last few years. We have new vans on the road and technical advisors on the road.”
