Athenry student wins top essay award

STUDENTS from Athenry have received top honours at the fourth Oireachtas Essay Competition/Aiste an Oireachtas awards.

Emily Ross from Presentation College, Athenry won the prize for the Best Essay in Connacht, while Alyssa Ní Bhrolcháin student of Coláiste an Eachréidh was highly commended in the competition.

The competition invites students in Senior Cycle, as well as AS and A level students across the island of Ireland to submit essays on the given theme.

This year’s competition invited essays on the theme ‘Is AI a threat to Democracy?’ / ‘An Intleacht Shaorga – bargairt don Daonlathas?’.

The Oireachtas Essay Competition encourages young people to reflect on the importance of democracy and has a prize fund of €6000.
