Community groups rally behind drinking ban
Hopes changes will benefit town centre park
SEVERAL community groups in Tuam are supporting the proposed introduction of a ban on drinking alcohol in public areas in the town.
The new bylaws are scheduled to commence on July 7. They will allow the Gardai to confiscate alcohol or hit individuals drinking in public areas with a €75 fine should they refuse requests to stop drinking or leave the area peacefully.
The Trustees of the Mill Museum are among the groups supportive of the changes as they face constant littering of bottles, cans, food waste and on occasion human waste in the vicinity of their premises.
