Good Friday Way of the Cross links two cathedrals
This year’s Ecumenical Way of the Cross will take place on Good Friday, April 3, bringing together the communities of Tuam in a prayerful walk between the town’s two cathedrals.
The procession will be led by Archbishop Francis Duffy and the Dean of St. Mary’s Cathedral, the Very Reverend Diane Matchett.
The Way of the Cross will begin at 11.45 am at the Cathedral of the Assumption, weather permitting. From there, participants will move down Cathedral Terrace and continue along Bishop Street. The route then leads onto the Square and proceeds down High Street, concluding in St. Mary’s Cathedral, near the historic site where Tuam’s High Cross now stands.
Readers from St. Mary’s Cathedral will introduce each station and proclaim the Scripture passages associated with the traditional 14 Stations of the Cross. Students from High Cross College will also take part, offering their own contemporary reflections at each station, bringing a fresh and youthful perspective to the devotion.
In recent years, people of all ages have joined the Good Friday Way of the Cross through the streets of Tuam—an expression of shared faith, community spirit, and ecumenical cooperation. All are welcome to take part again this year.
