A MAN was arrested following the suspected seizure of €63,000 worth of ketamine in Galway yesterday (Sunday, March 1)

The incident was part of ongoing investigations into the sale and supply of drugs and related crime in the region.

Gardaí attached to the Galway Divisional Drugs Unit stopped a car at Bóthar na dTreabh, Galway, and seized suspected ketamine with an estimated street value of €63,000.

A man, aged in his 20s, was arrested and detained at a station in the Garda North Western Region under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

In a follow-up search at a residential property in Dublin 15, Gardaí seized €5,000 in cash and a quantity of cocaine.

The man was released without charge and a file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The drugs will be sent to Forensic Science Ireland for analysis and investigations are ongoing.

Ketamine is a powerful anaesthetic that is used for animals and humans. Its use as an illegal recreational drug is increasing in Ireland.
